Welcome to our website about our hobby and passion, the breeding and care of our feathered darlings. I am Marnix and my wife is Carine. I was born in 1958 in Torhout. We live in Belgium, West Flanders between Torhout and Diksmuide. My interest in raising birds started about 20 years back, when I had built a big outdoor aviary to raise canaries. After a while they started to breed. I had too many young birds left, so I sold them in a bird market as the Internet didn't exist then! It was there I saw these little parrots for the first time. They turned out to be Lovebirds, or more precisely Black masked lovebirds. I bought a couple of them right away and divided the aviary in two to keep them separate from my canaries. Then I added nest boxes that I hung in the aviary and soon after they started to have babies. The couple were both wild-coloured green, so I was amazed to spot a blue one between the green baby birds. At that time I still didn't know anything about genetics and inheritance of birds.
Due to personal circumstances I had less time to give to raising birds and I had to dismantle the aviary a few years later. But birds were now in my blood and that's why we decided in 2003 to build a aviary. Also because Carine is also a real animal lover. This time we decided to concentrate on raising black masked personatas. We are members of the West Flemish parakeet club WPC and with the famous club for Lovebirds, BVA where we also get the rings for our birds. Our membership numbers are "wpc d628" and "bva 2019". Since 2003 we have learned a lot from experienced breeders from both clubs and from the Love Bird book by chairman Dirk Van den Abeele and of course also through the Internet.
